Meet the Families
Hicks Family
Home Sponsor: Burnet, Duckworth & Palmer
Dana has four daughters; MacKenzie (9), Madison (7), Sage (4) and Jorja (1), one of whom is her adopted niece.
Dana works for the government as a judicial clerk. The ladies currently live in Co-op housing where they are rapidly outgrowing the space available. All are involved in their community, providing support and friendship where their neighbours speak frequently about the joy and happiness Dana and her little ladies bring to the community.
They look forward to being in their new home and community as Dana wants her girls to have a secure and stable home, and feels that Habitat will be able to give her and her girls a wonderful opportunity for a bright and better future.
Muhammad & Ufra & Family
Home Sponsors: The Home Depot Canada (Foundation) and Lafarge Canada Inc.
Muhammad and Urfa have four children; daughter Maryum (13), sons Muzafe (21), Murtuza (17) and Musa (6).
Muhammad works full-time as a Quality Control Inspector; he is a highly skilled professional holding a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Pakistan and Ufra is a dayhome provider. Muzafe is a full-time university student at the studying Bio-Mechanical Engineering and is also employed as a part-time instructor.
The family is very faith based with strong community ties. The family has close neighbourhood ties and can often be found helping out with childcare, cooking and helping out. Muhammad says Ufra is always “busy with the neighbours”. All the children volunteer either with their schools or mosque and are involved in sports and other extra-curricular activities. The younger children are also enrolled in French immersion programs at school and all are very engaged and excited to participate in Habitat’s homeownership program.
Homeownership is a dream come true for this deserving family that is both engaged with and gives back to the community. They truly touch the lives of those around them.
