Habitat Calgary volunteers and donors have completed the 12-unit townhouse complex in Capitol Hill and we are pleased to welcome these families home!

This is an extraordinary opportunity for our families, as the location is within close proximity of essential resources such as schools, parks, public transit and shopping.

History

The land that Leo & Goldie Sheftel Court is built on was donated to the Calgary Land Trust by the children of Leo & Goldie Sheftel and The Home Depot Canada.

The complex was designed by BKDI Architects who donated their design skills and encouraged their staff to volunteer on the job site.

Engineering services were donated by UMA Engineering who are long-time supporters of Habitat.

As usual, the homes are constructed by volunteers.  A number of our volunteers are individuals who have prior construction experience and are always willing to offer their knowledge and skills while working alongside volunteers that are new to the building industry.

Each of the homes is sponsored by Calgary businesses or individuals.  Companies have encouraged their staff to volunteer together as a team building opportunity.  Some companies who are business partners have come together to volunteer; others have even brought their competitors together to build!  The construction of Leo and Goldie Sheftel Court is a model for how everyone in a community can work together to help families in need.
