Habitat Homes are Gold!

Our Habitat for Humanity homes are not your standard house; we invest time and money to build our homes to one of the highest environmental standards for home construction in Alberta. Our homes have achieved a GOLD STANDARD  rating because of the thought and care we put into making sure we meet as many environmentally responsible design and construction practices as possible. While our high quality home construction is good for our environment, it also creates a huge benefit for the families who purchase our homes because being environmentally responsible lowers the monthly utility costs. And when you are on a tight budget, every dollar that can be saved on maintenance and utility expenses to operate a home, can better be directed to food and clothing for our families and their children.

The following is a list of the GOLD STANDARD measures we take to make our homes “green”:

1. Habitat is a member of the Alberta “BUILT GREEN” initiative!
2. Our exterior walls are constructed with the EMERCOR WALL SYSTEM which ensures that our walls have an insulation value of R-43!
3. All ceiling insulation has an insulation value of R-40!
4. All concrete walls are fully wrapped with insulation which makes for much warmer basements and lower heating costs!
5. All of our windows are LOW – E Triple Glazed!
6. Our heating systems are high efficiency,  state-of-the-art installations!
7. Our homes are built SOLAR READY; all of the necessary plumbing that is required for solar heating is installed during construction to allow for future solar heating installations!
8. All of our hot water installations employ an On Demand system which means the water is heated only when needed!
9. All of our plumbing systems use Low-Flow appliances!
10. All exterior finishes are of low maintenance design!
